Many patients believe that needle insertion is what causes discomfort during an injection, when in fact most of the pain is caused by the flow of the anaesthetic.
The mere sight of a dental syringe and the thought of having an injection by the dentist can easily make most patients wish they were somewhere else. For patients, this fear can be costly.
At the heart of this device is an on-board microprocessor, which guides the anaesthetic flow rate. The microprocessor inside
The Wand™ automatically compensates for different tissue densities and the anaesthetic itself is delivered at a constant pressure and volume so that the injection itself is hardly felt.

The unit additionally provides a flow of anaesthetic directly ahead of the needle creating a "pathway of anaesthesia" to further decrease the uncomfortable feeling usually associated with a dental injection. The source of discomfort for most injections, isn’t the needle – it’s the flow of anaesthetic into the tissue in your mouth. The Wand™ allows for an optimal flow rate every single time so that the injection process can be more comfortable.
Patient reactions are highly favourable and report a quicker onset of anaesthesia, a more profound and shorter lasting feeling. This means that for a typical procedure, it numbs faster, better and that uncomfortable numbness seems to disappear faster.
ADVANCED INJECTIONS MADE EASY,
TRADITIONAL INJECTIONS MADE EFFORTLESS
Because of The Wand®,
non-traditional palatal (AMSA, P-ASA) and PDL
injections are gaining rapid acceptance as
standard injections offering exceptional benefits
for the patient and doctor. The Wand®
provides a comfortable, predictable and
controllable alternative to traditional syringes,
and can be beneficial for just about
any anaesthetic injection required. The most
common injections are shown here:
AMSA and P-ASA
These
two injections take the place of multiple
infiltrations. They do not affect the
lips, face and muscles of expression. The smile line
is not distorted even though anaesthesia
is profound, which often makes a smile
assessment recall appointment unnecessary.

Anterior Middle
Superior Alveolar Block
This new and exciting
injection is ideal for aesthetic restorative dentistry, scaling and root planing,
and palatal soft and hard tissue surgical procedures. This site-specific
injection does not affect the lips, face and muscles of expression.
Range of Anaesthesia:
One injection site
- Central to second premolar. Bilateral injection-
Second premolar to second premolar.
Ideal For:
• Aesthetic restorative
dentistry procedures. • Scaling and root planing. • Palatal soft and hard
tissue surgical procedures.
Benefit:
• Pulpal anaesthesia of
maxillary teeth and palatal soft tissue anaesthesia with no numbness of face and
lips. • Multiple tooth anaesthesia from a single injection. • Reduced dosage
of anaesthetic vs. traditional approach. • Very comfortable palatal injection
Palatal
Anterior Superior Alveolar Block
This site-specific injection is excellent for aesthetic
restorative dentistry, scaling and root planing, and soft and hard tissue
surgical procedures. This is the only intraoral injection that results in
bilateral anaesthesia of multiple teeth.
Range of Anaesthesia:
Central and
maxillary incisors and frequently canines.
Ideal For:
• Aesthetic restorative
dental procedures. • Scaling and root planing. • Palatal soft and hard tissue
surgical procedures.
Benefit:
• Bilateral pulpal
anaesthesia of maxillary teeth and palatal soft tissue anaesthesia from a single
site. • Anaesthesia with no numbness of lips and face. • Reduced dosage of
anaesthetic.
No matter what injection you use, it
will be easier for you and more comfortable for the patient with The Wand®
Periodontal
Ligament Injection
Often ignored because of
its difficulty, inconsistency, and the pain involved, this technique is much
more appealing for practitioner and patient with The Wand®. It can be used as a
primary injection for a single tooth when anaesthetic duration of less than one hour is
acceptable, or as a supplementary injection to inferior alveolar blocks.
Range of Anaesthesia:
Single tooth
and associated attached gingival.
Ideal For:
•
Primary injection for
pulpal anaesthesia of less than one hour.
• Supplemental pulpal
anaesthesia to a traditional block or infiltration.
Benefit:
• Lack of collateral
anaesthesia to the face, tongue or lips. • Rapid onset. • Easy to administer.
• Very comfortable for
patient

Inferior
Alveolar Block Injection
The Inferior Alveolar
Block is the primary injection for the mandible. The Wand® dramatically improves
this injection by increasing accuracy and decreasing discomfort. The rotational
insertion technique eliminates needle deflection, which is often blamed for
missed blocks. The Wand®-assisted injection results in a virtually pain-free
injection with a rapid onset of anaesthesia.
Range of Anaesthesia:
Mandibular
quadrant.
Ideal For:
• Pulpal anaesthesia of
mandibular teeth.
• Soft and hard tissue of
the mandible (in association with buccal nerve blocks).
Benefit:
• Increased tactile feel
and control. • Rotational insertion reduces needle deflection and missed blocks
while improving accuracy. • Better visibility. • More comfortable for patient.
• Frequently more rapid
onset.
Infiltration
Even routine infiltration injections are improved with
The Wand®. The computer regulated delivery makes this technique even more
appealing – now you can count on patient comfort as much as you do
predictability.
Range of Anaesthesia:
Anaesthesia at
site of injection.
Ideal For:
• Single tooth in
maxillary arch and for soft and hard tissue procedures in either arch
Benefit:
•
Better feel, control and more delicate placement.
• Better visibility. •
More comfortable for patient. •
Less threatening
appearance.
